About The Lodge
The Melbourne High School Lodge was founded in 1954, with its first meeting held at the former “South Suburban Freemasons Hall” Albert Road, South Melbourne.
Their membership is active throughout Freemasonry in Victoria; raising funds for the school scholarship programs, participation in the ‘Working Tools for Timor' and ‘The Girth' program and other charitable causes.
There is a task force representative with the newest brother, James Roland Smith III, who recently joined the Lodge from Texas. The fact that the majority of the members are past students or parents of Melbourne High School creates a lovely sense of community and commonality at the Lodge.
Social events are held throughout the year including dining on Puffing Billy, support of the school functions and the Old Boys' Association, attendance at cultural events including opera and theatre, dinners, golf days and wine tours.
The meeting places have varied over the years; South Suburban Masonic Hall, East Melbourne Masonic Centre, Prahran Masonic Centre, Waverley Masonic Centre, Keysborough Masonic Centre and finally Melbourne High School Performing Arts Centre. It was always a desire to meet at the school – now achieved!
A significant event in the Lodge's history took place in 1987, when the Lodge handed in its warrant. However, many members continued to meet socially with the aim to re-establish the Lodge and this successfully occurred in 2001. The Melbourne High School Lodge is proud of its heritage and its connection to education and the School.
The Lodge has the right mix of social and Masonic degree activities, strong membership attendance and commitment and an emergence of younger members, including two Lodge Masters under 30. It is also important to the Lodge to have family and friends involved in the Melbourne High School Lodge Community.
