Lodge And Foundation Join Again to Fund Special Scholarship

An ongoing $8000 annual scholarship cheque, funded jointly by Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge  and Freemasons Foundation Victoria, was presented on Thursday, February 2, at the Ivalda Masonic Temple, Darebin.

The annual ‘Buckley Night' event, attended by more than 80 people, heard Freemasons Victoria CEO Jane Sydenham-Clarke talk of the challenges being faced by the 9300-strong fraternity, and the strategies being adopted to grow the organisation.

The cheque presentation was made by VWor. Bro. Michael Holloway. The scholarship is named after his father, the late RWor. Bro. Rev. Peter Holloway, who as a young Bairnsdale  boy from a struggling rural family in the 1920s, won a scholarship to Ivanhoe. It changed his life.

The current scholarship is awarded to a young person, who could not otherwise afford a secondary education at Ivanhoe. The current awardee has an overseas background from a large family, and says the scholarship has given them life opportunities they would have not otherwise experienced.

Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge, in partnership with the Freemasons Foundation Victoria, is funding initiatives at other local schools. Last year, 23 new bicycles were donated for an after-school program at Bundoora Secondary College, for disadvantaged local teenagers.
